How SUGA of BTS has reimagined Over the horizon (twitter @gram_for_)
Hi, I’m SUGA of BTS. This project was to arrange the song, “Over the Horizon”. As a big fan of Galaxy, it was a very special experience. I listened to a lot of instrumentals from a young age and I’ve always wanted to make an instrumental track, so the whole process was incredible. It was an honor to work on a song that’s been a part of Galaxy’s 10-year history. I tried to put my own interpretation while keeping the melody largely the same for it to resonate with a broader audience.
I wouldn’t go far as to say that it’s my source of inspiration. But I always liked “Over the Horizon”. I also heard different versions by various artists. Everyone knows that it’s the Galaxy theme song just by its melody. I was really excited when they asked me to do the project. I started off feeling like is was meant to be. The first Sketch didn’t take long.
Everyone loved what I did with the song. I listened to it over and over again added a string solo then the guitar to make it more dramatic and to give it the full grandeur. Like the title, “Over the Horizon” it’s about going beyond our limits, No one knows what will unfold, But our dreams make us go farther than ever, I hope that together with Galaxy you’ll feel your heart open up. 안녕하세요. BTS의 SUGA입니다. 네 이번 프로젝트는 "Over the Horizon”을 새롭게 편곡하는 작업이었는데요. 저 또한 한 명의 갤럭시 팬으로서, 또 유저로서 너무 뜻깊고 즐거운 경험이었습니다. 어렸을 때 연주곡 듣는 걸 굉장히 좋아했다 보니까 저도 꼭 한 번 이런 연주곡 작업을 해보고 싶었는데 이렇게 특히나 "Over the Horizon”을 편곡해볼 수 있게 되어서 너무나도 즐거웠고 행복한 시간이었습니다.
갤럭시 10년 역사를 함께한 곡이기 때문에 사실 좀 부담이 되기도 했고, 저만의 색을 넣으려고 노력을 많이 해봤는데 아무래도 "Over the Horizon”이라는 인상적인 메인 멜로디가 있다 보니까 그걸 살리면서 모두가 즐길 수 있는.. 그렇게 해석해보려고 노력을 많이 했습니다.
영감의 소스라고 하면 너무 거창하긴 한데 그 이전부터 사실 “Over the Horizon”을 좋아했었어요. 다양한 아티스트들과 작업했던 것도 다 들었었고. 특히나 메인 멜로디가 나오면 ‘아 이건 갤럭시 테마구나’라는 걸 알 수 있잖아요. 처음에 의뢰가 들어왔을 때 꼭 한 번 해보고 싶었고 그리고 또 당연히 해야 될 것만 같은 느낌으로 작업을 시작했고요. 되게 빠르게 스케치가 나왔던 것 같아요. 그걸 관계자분들한테 들려드리니까 너무 마음에 들어 하시길래 라인을 반복해서 들어보면서 스트링 솔로도 녹음하고 기타 솔로도 추가하면서 웅장함 을 느낄 수 있도록 공들여서 작업을 많이 했던 것 같아요.
이 노래 제목이 “Over the Horizon”이잖아요. 끝이라고, 또 한계라고 생각했던 것을 넘어선 앞으로 어떤 것들이 펼쳐질지 모르는. 우리 모두 가지고 있는 어떤 거대한 꿈, 이상, 나아갈 수 있다는 믿음. 그런 것들을 갤럭시와 함께 느끼고 공감해 주셨으면 합니다. 감사합니다.
